Supporting Each Other and Canada

Supporting Each Other and Canada

The fact that our bakery is over 93 years old means that there is much upkeep and maintenance. Being a small family run business means that we do most of the work ourselves. Some would say that cleaning a bakery ceiling is not the best use of the owners’ time. The opportunity cost is high; could we be using our time more wisely to carry the business forward?

As much as I agree with that, getting dirty and getting the job done demonstrates to ourselves and others that we are willing to keep reinvesting our time to keep this old bakery going. It reinspires the team to know that we care enough to do the tough stuff ourselves, giving them more incentive to keep things clean and organized.

There is a great sense of pride in a job well done, knowing that the task was so daunting but we did it anyway. Working side by side with my brother, me stretched out on top of a ladder and he crouched on top of an oven, shows both of us that we are in this together. To me this is reinvesting in our partnership and our business and that is a worthy use of our time.

Thanks to Arlan who came in to help us complete this daunting task. It brought us all closer together and that is priceless to me.

On the fun side of things, our team designed and printed these adorable Christies “Proudly Canadian” cookies. We are proud to be a family run Canadian business serving our wonderful community here in Saskatoon.
